The Board of Directors, which meets monthly, has the overall authority to operate Blanchet Catholic School pursuant to Oregon laws and consistent with Blanchet Catholic School's status as a Catholic school. The Board established the by-laws and policies of the school and provides oversight as to the President and Principal.

Strategic Five-Year Plan

Board Development
Develops and oversees the annual review of progress on the five-year plan and helps evaluate Board effectiveness in facilitating that progress.  It makes recommendations for bringing individuals on the Board who have the talents, skills, and resources necessary to maximize Board effectiveness.  It ensures that new members to the Board are fully appraised to what they are committing themselves to and are given a comprehensive orientation to the school and Board protocol.  Finally, it helps ensure that Board members, officers, and committees maintain a clear focus on reaching the goals established in the five-year plan.

Executive
Exercises the authority of the Board of Directors in the management of the corporation, in between meetings of the Board, as outlined in the bylaws.  It consults with and advises the Chair and the President, and performs such duties as prescribed by the Board.  It also serves as personnel board for the school, and handles confidential matters or issues until they reach a stage where they can be presented to the Board as proposed policy decisions.

Facilities
Oversees the physical assets of the school.  It also acts to prepare and maintain a maintenance manual for the buildings and grounds.  The committee is involved in the planning of all new capital projects and works to ensure that they are consistent with the five-year planning process.  Coordination with the Finance Committee and recommendations for adjustments to the budgeting process is also an essential part of the committee function.

Finance
Responsible for audit of corporation records and monitors its ongoing financial status, including monitoring the implementation of the budget.  It recommends how to balance sources of revenue with prioritized and planned expenditures through monitoring, highlighting and modeling the sources and uses of funds over the short and long term.

Human Resources
Develops policies and guidelines for maintaining an outstanding working environment for the employees of Blanchet.  Seeks to ensure the maintenance of a strong school community that attracts and maintains high-quality teachers and administrative staff, and provides them with a competitive salary and benefits.  Seeks to identify incentives for recruiting new teachers.  Strives to maintain a class size of optimal configuration and fosters interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary approaches to teaching and learning.

Marketing and Public Relations
Ensures that the school communicates its mission, vision, and image clearly and regularly, using the most effective means to reach identified audiences.  It develops a program to foster support and involvement to increase donor base and conducts ongoing market research to assess progress in achieving that goal.

Mission, Vision and Faith Formation
Seeks to maintain a faith-centered community that encourages intellectual growth, nurtures faith, and inspires action.  Encourages the school community to participate in the church’s mission of building faith communities, celebration through worship, and service to others.

Nominations
Identifies potential members and presents a slate of nominees for election or appointment when Board positions become open.

Program and Curriculum
Seeks to establish a high-quality college preparatory learning program that offers opportunities to participate in Christian service projects and a variety of extracurricular activities.  Develops a curriculum plan, fine and performing arts program, computer/technology program, and a competitive athletics program.  It also encourages multi-cultural and cross-cultural school environment and interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary curricula.

Resource Development
Seeks to establish a stable resource base, to secure resources for new initiatives and capital improvements and develop new sources of scholarship funding.  Seeks expansion of private donor base through the creation of a variety of mechanisms for giving.  Seeks establishment of programs for major and planned gifts, for participation of foundations, and the fostering of corporate relations.  Conducts donor and prospect research and participates in the annual giving campaign.
