Sigrun Oprea was born in South Africa and completed her Bachelors in Music specializing in performance and teaching at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. She went on to perform full time with the National Symphony Orchestra, collaborating with the likes of Pavarotti, Joshua Bell, Pinchas Zuckerman and Yehudi Menuhin to name but a few. In 2001 Sigrun moved with her husband to Germany, where she completed a Bachelors in Education in Hanover and freelanced with local orchestras in the area. In 2009 she moved with her family to Salem Oregon. She is currently teaching on a freelance basis for the Salem Keizer school district and is orchestra director for Blanchet Catholic School as well as orchestra director and general music teacher for the Montessori Discovery Center. She performs full time with the Eugene Symphony, is assistant concertmaster for Festival Chorale and Salem Orchestra and performs with many other local groups in the area. She is also a full time member of the Salem String Quartet, performing recitals and concerts for Camerata Musica and Andante Vineyard. When Sigrun is not performing or teaching she enjoys traveling, skiing with her family and competing in local dressage shows with her horses.
