2023 Hall of Fame Inductees

Bartch grew up in Dayton, Oregon, and attended Blanchet Catholic School. As a student at Blanchet, Ben was involved indrama, DECA, O utdoor Club, and Friends of Benedictine. He was awarded third place in state and was a national qualifier in DECA. Ben also competed in basketball, track & field, and football, achieving all-league and all-state honors in football. He also was named all-league in basketball and placed 4th in the state for shot put. He holds a state title for discus. He was very active in his community by participating in the Adopt a Highway program, the Northeast Salem Community Christmas Party, and church cleaning. He was also inducted into the National Honor Society his junior year.
After high school, Ben went on to St. John’s University where he began his collegiate football career playing tight end.  He played in one game as a freshman and was the team’s third tight end as a sophomore, catching four passes for 43 yards and one touchdown. His coaches liked his blocking ability and suggested he move to the offensive line going into his junior season.
Bartch went up from 250 pounds to 275 by summer training camp before eventually reaching 305 pounds. Bartch became the Johnnies’ starting left tackle and was named second-team All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). As a senior, Bartch was named first-team All-MIAC and a consensus first-team All-American by D3Football.com. Bartch would earn a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Saint John’s. Considered a prospect in the 2020 NFL Draft, Bartch was invited to participate in the 2020 Senior Bowl. He also continued to give back to his community. In college, Ben was nominated for the 2019 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, an annual award that honors deserving student-athletes across the country for their dedication to community service.
Ben was selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. This year, he is the Jaguars’ starting left guard. As a professional athlete, he participates with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Florida as a big brother to his little brother. For two years, Bartch has participated in a community Walk to School Day, teaching children about the safety of walking to school and listening to the crossing guards.
 

Bill Coste attended Lewis and Clark College where he earned a degree in Finance.  He also received a Bachelor of Science in Education and Administration from Western Oregon State University as well as an Education Business Endorsement.  

Bill taught and coached basketball at Alsea High School from 1988 to 1999 before moving on to Blanchet.  He was a high school Business teacher, varsity boys basketball coach, and an Assistant Principal while at Blanchet.  He was recognized as a Distinguished Educator in 2003.  As a basketball coach, he received many accolades including Oregon State Basketball Coach of the Year and Far West States Coach of the Year in 1998, and National Basketball Coach of the Year in 1999.  He led the Blanchet Boys basketball team to the District Championships in 2001, 2002, and 2003.  They won the District Championship in 2002.  Bill also built shot put and discus rings for the track and field and painted the gym floor.

Bill is the author of two books.  ‘Just Add Peanut Butter and Stir’ which is a satirical piece on raising children.  His second is titled Basketball Plays, Tricks, and Gimmicks‘, a book that offers basketball tricks and gimmicks that are aimed to supplement team deficiencies and help form some steps for personal success. Included are numerous forms and letters for the neophyte coaches. From building a program to practicing tips and hints, from mastering zone defense and man-to-man defense to creating tactics, this book presents tips that will save time and research for those new to coaching basketball.

Bill is also a proud member of the Subway Alumni; a group of Notre Dame Fighting Irish fans who are known for their strict allegiance to the school although they never attended or graduated from the school.

Bill has been married to his lovely wife Bette for 58 years and they live in Corvallis, Oregon.  Together they have three children, Sean, Kelly, and Blanchet’s own Corina Moore!  Bill has been a member of St. Mary’s parish in Corvallis for 54 years, is a 1st Degree Knights of Columbus, and volunteers at the St Mary’s soup kitchen.  

Karrie Hagedorn graduated from Blanchet in 2004.  While at Blanchet she was very active in varsity soccer, track, tennis, basketball, and drama.  She also served in student government as the Student Body Activities Director.  Karrie was an All-State player in soccer and All-Conference in both soccer and track.  She was recognized by Salem Breakfast Club and the Statesman Journal for soccer as well.

After Blanchet, Karrie attended Saint Mary’s College of California. While at Saint Mary’s she ran NCAA Division I Cross Country and Track and broke school records.  She was recognized as an All-Conference, Athlete of the Week, and Academic All-Conference award winner.  Karrie graduated from Saint Mary’s in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Politics, Communications, and Spanish.  She received the Thomas Jefferson Award for graduating at the top of her class in the Politics Department.

After starting a career in non-profit fundraising, Karrie made a career transition into High Tech in the San Francisco Bay Area / Silicon Valley.  She is now based out of New York City and going on 6 years at Salesforce, where she is in Strategic Enterprise Sales within their Financial Services vertical, working with clients who are among the largest banks and wealth management firms in the world.

Karrie has served as a volunteer and donor with Saint Mary's College Athletics, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and the NYC-based Opportunity Network (opportunitynetwork.org).  She is an original member of the Blanchet Alumni Association and helped to create the William Brooks Memorial Scholarship. In August 2023, she will be marrying the love of her life, Stephen Turchan.

Kim Knackstedt is a senior fellow and director of The Century Foundation’s Disability Economic Justice Collaborative, where her work focuses on economic justice for people with disabilities and their families. She previously has served in disability policy positions in Congress and the White House. She brings experience as a classroom teacher of students with disabilities and as a person with chronic illness to her policy perspectives. In 2016, Kim was the Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Public Policy Fellow, serving on the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. From 2017 to 2019, she served as the disability policy advisor for Chairman Bobby Scott on the Committee on Education and Labor in the U.S. House of Representatives. From 2019 to 2021, she was the senior disability policy advisor for Senator Patty Murray on the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee in the U.S. Senate.  In January 2021, Kim was appointed as the first director of disability policy for the Domestic Policy Council for the Biden–Harris Administration.

Kimberly graduated from Blanchet Catholic School in 2005. While at Blanchet, she was the manager for the girls’ basketball and cross-country teams and participated in several musicals. She also helped start a spirit club her senior year. The spirit club decorated the halls for the various sports events and put posters around the school.  And because riding her horse was more than an extracurricular
activity, Kim lettered in horseback riding while at Blanchet.

After Blanchet, Kim received her Bachelor of Education in Special Education and Elementary Education from Gonzaga University, a Master of Education in special education from the University of Kansas, and a Ph.D. in special education and policy from the University of Kansas. In 2010, she married Joe Knackstedt whom she met while at Gonzaga University. Together they live in Washington DC where she still rides horses, explores the coffee shops around DC, and is working on building an extensive collection of houseplants.

Dr. Martha A. Monson is a Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist/Obstetrician-Gynecologist. She received her undergraduate degree from Willamette University where she graduated summa cum laude and attended medical school at the University of Vermont College of Medicine, after which she completed residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Utah. It was during her residency training when she developed a passion for high-risk pregnancy care and quality improvement. Dr. Monson completed a Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship as well as a Master's Degree in Clinical Science and Investigation at the University of Utah.


During her tenure as a resident and fellow at the University of Utah, Dr. Monson’s research and quality improvement efforts involved developing new obstetric safety bundles, enhancing obstetric team training/simulation drills, and participating in clinical research to improve patient safety on the labor unit. During her training at the University of Utah, Dr. Monson and her team were awarded the 2nd place prize in the National Improvement Challenge in Postpartum Hemorrhage sponsored by the Council on Patient Safety in Women’s Health Care. Dr. Monson has also had the opportunity to present her research at several national meetings and received the Award of Research Excellence in the Obstetric Quality and Safety category at the 2019 Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine Pregnancy Meeting.  


After completion of her Maternal-Fetal Fellowship training at the University of Utah, Dr. Monson accepted an opportunity to pursue a training fellowship in Fetal Surgery at Keck School of Medicine at USC in Los Angeles, California. During this fellowship training, Dr. Monson refined her skills in needle-based procedures and received formal training in fetal shunt procedures and operative fetoscopy for the treatment of complicated monochorionic twins and fetoscopic spina bifida repair. Dr. Monson returned to Utah in early 2022 to join the Grant Scott Bonham Fetal Center team at Primary Children’s Hospital as Director of Fetal Surgery. In addition to performing consultative services at the Fetal Center at Primary Children’s Hospital, Dr. Monson provides fetal surgical services and complex delivery care at the University of Utah Health. Finally, Dr. Monson continues to practice comprehensive Maternal-Fetal Medicine Care as a part of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division at Intermountain Health.


Martha graduated from Blanchet in 2003 and is married to her high school sweetheart, Joe Monson, also a 2003 graduate.  Martha and Joe have three children, Pearl who is 6, William who is 4 and baby Robert who is 7 months old.  Together, they live in Salt Lake City, UT.  Their oldest daughter is finishing Kindergarten at Madeleine Choir School at Cathedral of the Madeleine and William (Bill) starts in PreK there this fall. They knew when they started their family that they wanted to continue the tradition of raising their children in the Catholic School System.  They couldn't be more pleased with their experience so far.
